Overcome Depression

Find Freedom, Purpose, and Joy

We experience depression for a variety of reasons; sometimes depression is a result of ongoing stress or the loss of an important relationship. Past trauma can also cause depression.

Whatever the reason, it is important to understand that depression is among the most treatable disorders.

Depression is more than a sad mood that occurs in response to regular fluctuations in life.

Depression can range from long term experience of dysphoria (a general state of unease or dissatisfaction with life) to more intense episodes in which stronger feelings of sadness are accompanied by physical symptoms and possibly other mental health conditions such as anxiety.

Some Facts About Depression

According to the World Health Organization, more than 300 million people worldwide are affected by depression. In the United States, an estimated 16.2 million adults suffered from at least one depressive episode in 2016 (National Institute of Mental Health).

Although both men and women experience depression, about twice as many women are diagnosed with depression compared to men. Women are also more likely to experience co-occurring anxiety with depression. If your quality of life is affected by depression or anxiety, it is important to reach out for help.
